5 Ways To Make Water More Interesting …

Ditch “Natural Flavour”-ed beverages and try these…

Last week on our blog I answered the question: “I don’t drink sodas at all anymore, but I’m having these flavoured sparkling waters – like the Poland Springs one – and they have ‘natural flavours’…are those okay?”

I encouraged everyone to consider turning every beverage bottle around (and processed food packages too!) to check for “natural” and other flavours before you decide to consume something – because “natural flavours” are not good for your health.

In this post, I will offer 5 helpful tasty beverage recipes that you can easily make at home that do not contain any of these harmful substances. Basically, I will be sharing what I drink at home – and no it’s not just plain water!! 😉

5 Recipes for Tasty Water-Rich Beverages You Can Make at Home:

1) Homemade “Spindrift” Soda:
Take a tall glass and fill it 15 to 20% full of pure pink grapefruit juice, Dole pineapple juice or orange juice. Top with sparkling water. Squeeze a bit of lemon or lime juice in it.

2) Homemade Mojito Mocktail:
In a blender or bullet, blend lime juice, raw honey and mint. Put that blend into a mason jar and store in the fridge. When you’re ready for your Mojito, just pour some of it into a glass and top it off with clear, clean sparkling water. Add a lime wedge and some fresh mint and enjoy!

3) “RECOVERY FUEL” SWIZZLE RECIPE…🍹
Check out Ryan Gibbon’s healthy Swizzle recipe that he created for FUELLED for Cup Match in 2020.

4) Iced Hibiscus/Sorrel Tea
Take a big soup pot and fill it with water. Put 1 handful of dried hibiscus/sorrel flowers into the water (you can buy this at the Caribbean store on Court Street). Boil it all and then turn off the heat. Add honey to sweeten. Let cool and then transfer into a carafe or several mason jars, straining out the flowers, and place into your fridge. Once cool, pour into a glass and enjoy! An alternative option to vary the flavour is to add sliced pineapple (fresh or frozen) and fresh mint into the cold water right at the very beginning when adding the sorrel, and boil those flavours all together. I personally prefer this tea hot, but most people like iced tea in Bermuda.

5) Iced Green Tea with Lemon and Honey
Take a big soup pot and fill it with water. Place 4 to 5 tea bags of a good quality green tea, or 4 to 5 tablespoons of loose green tea (check My Serenitea or Miles to purchase those). Bring to a boil. Add lemon and honey to taste. Let cool and then transfer into a carafe or several mason jars, removing the tea bags or loose green tea, and place into your fridge. Once cool, pour into a glass and enjoy! An alternative would be to boil this with oranges for a Wild Sweet Orange & Green Tea flavour combination, or to add other herbal tea bags with flavours like raspberry or ginger to the mix at the very start.

These are some of my healthy homemade Go-To beverages that really make water taste nice!!
