Hello everyone!
Last Friday we held a successful Kid’s Cooking Class with some of the kids in the home school network here in Bermuda. As we are coming up close to Halloween ????????????, we focused on healthy pumpkin recipes!!
At FUELLED, we believe that putting healthier consumption of food at the center of holidays in fun ways will have lasting impacts…and what better way to make an impact than to start with the youngest of us – our children? In our Pumpkin themed kid’s cooking class, we whipped up yummy pumpkin smoothies (high in vitamins and minerals!) that we placed in glass mason jars with our names on the lids as well as gluten-free pumpkin gnocchi (great way to sneak veggies in!) with a homemade tomato and mushroom sauce.
You might have noticed that “more children are becoming picky eaters as they are exposed to ubiquitous processed foods. Children’s taste buds can be modified with more exposure to junk food and it may be more of a challenge for them to eat healthy foods,” as Kathleen Kevany, Associate Professor Sustainable Food Systems, Director of Rural Research Centre, Dalhousie University, reports in this article (2019).
So, we need to get in there and make a positive difference! Especially around the holidays! We feel it’s time to create new Halloween (and Christmas and Thanksgiving and Easter…) rituals with healthy eating and playful living at their core for these budding little beings.
In our FUELLED kids cooking class, budding chefs get to blend, measure, stir and mix their way to delicious dishes with the guidance of our skilled instructor and healthy food chef, Agathe Holowatinc (me!????) . They often marvel at how much they are capable of in the kitchen. Kids learn valuable culinary skills and new recipes, enjoy a fun and social activity, and are inspired to expand their taste buds to discover that healthy “real food” can be really good! It’s a fun cooking adventure and the best part is that they get to eat everything they make! This foodie adventure is for anyone ages 4-10.
Maybe you’d like to treat your kids or your nieces and nephews, grandchildren or godchildren to an unforgettable, immersive experience like this? If so, please contact us at coach@fuelledlife.com and we’ll plan something out for you! Get your kids eating healthier and having fun doing it! Remember – kids can learn to embrace healthy eating habits early!
Much love,
Agathe
