Last week I shared the benefits of water and how to literally ‘eat your water’ to help keep your body hydrated…

And this week I’m going to touch on foods that boost energy! Another thing we need in this intense heat, right?

Here is my list of the TOP 5 Energy-Boosting Foods to enjoy this August and beyond….

EAT FOR ENERGY! ⚡

1)    MORINGA LEAF! This is a tremendously nutrient-dense green leaf that grows on a tree found right here in Bermuda, but can also be bought dried in supplement form from a pharmacy or health food store like RockON on Front Street. You can freeze the leaf, if you get some fresh here in Bermuda, so get bunches at a time, don’t hold back! Throw into smoothies, salads, sauces, stir-fries, soups, etc.!! 

2)    DARK, LEAFY GREEN VEGGIES! These are nutrient-powerhouses that really pack a punch! Try to eat a handful or more of organic spinach, kale, collards, red lettuce, etc…EVERY DAY!

3)    DARK CHOCOLATE (without sugar-laden add-ins) – 70% or higher, and organic if possible. Take it earlier in the day to benefit from the energy producing properties throughout the day. I would say 1 – 5 squares/day, but not more.

4)    BEETS (and beet juice) – These increase blood flow to parts of the brain responsible for attention and self-regulation.

5)    ALMONDS/WALNUTS & DATES – This combo provides powerful plant protein and omega-3 fats with the natural sugar boost from the dates.

It’s not all about food guys! Follow these tips to keep your energy consistent throughout the rest of these hot summer months and beyond…

1)   Get RESTORATIVE SLEEP
